Teams integration

This article will help you connect your Tato instance to Microsoft Teams so you can get project insights without leaving the tool you're in.

Enabling the app

If your org has already configured the Tato app, you can add it directly from the Apps section in Teams under Built for your organization and skip the installation steps below.

Installation

Before installing the Teams app, make sure an admin of your Microsoft organization has granted the required Tato integrations. See Enabling permissions for how to view permission status and copy consent links.

1. Allow custom apps in Teams

You or an admin in your organization needs to allow custom app uploads before installing the Tato app.

  1. Sign in to the Teams admin center.
  2. Go to Teams apps > Setup policies > Global (Org-wide default).
  3. Confirm Upload custom apps is set to On.
  4. Save. If you use a custom setup policy instead of the global default, apply the same change there.

2. Getting the manifest

To install the Teams app — org-wide or individually — you'll need the Teams Manifest. Navigate to your Organization settings in Tato, click Integrations, and download the manifest from there.

If you don't see the manifest, make sure you go to Account settings > Features and enable Experimental features.

Click Download manifest. You should see a file like tato-teams-manifest-tenant.zip in your downloads folder.

Org-wide installation

Have a Microsoft 365 admin upload the manifest to your Teams organization:

Once the app has been added to the organization, users can add it themselves from the Built for your organization section, or an admin can pre-install it for them.

Manual installation

In Teams, navigate to Apps and click Manage your apps.

Manage your apps in Microsoft Teams

Click the three dots menu, then Upload an app.

You might see this screen when trying to upload your manifest if your org requires admin approval before installing custom apps.

In this case, upload the app and wait until it's been approved. You may need to reach out to your IT admin.

Using the Tato agent

You can only use Tato in meetings, chats, and messages owned by your organization. If you join a call organized by someone outside your organization, the integration will not work.

1-on-1 chats

Start a 1-on-1 chat by clicking the three dots in the left rail of Teams and selecting the Tato bot from the list.

Group chats and channels

Bots in Teams must be added to group chats and channels before they can be used.

Go to Manage your apps, view the details of the Tato app, click Open, then select which channels and group chats you'd like Tato to be available in.

Sending messages

Always invoke the bot with @Tato — Microsoft Teams won't route the message to Tato unless it's explicitly mentioned.
